Embrace Brokenness, Restore Hope
At LivArtFully.sg, our kintsugi workshops in Singapore invite you to experience the ancient Japanese art of golden repair. More than restoring pottery, kintsugi is a metaphor for resilience, healing, and hope—transforming broken pieces into radiant lines of strength.
What Is Kintsugi?
Kintsugi, meaning “golden joinery,” is the practice of repairing cracked ceramics with lacquer and gold. Rather than hiding flaws, it celebrates them, teaching us that imperfections are part of our story. At LivArtFully, we bring this timeless tradition into a modern, experiential setting.
Workshop Experience
Led by artist and certified mental wellness facilitator Audrey Lee, each session blends artistry with reflection. Participants learn hands‑on repair techniques while engaging in guided mindfulness activities. Workshops typically last 2.5–3 hours, with all materials provided. Suitable for ages 10 and above, they are designed to be both accessible and deeply transformative.
This hands-on kintsugi workshop introduces participants to a modern take on the traditional art of Kintsugi — the Japanese philosophy of mending broken pottery with gold to celebrate flaws rather than conceal them. In this modern adaptation, participants use safe, fast-drying materials like epoxy and metallic paint to restore ceramic pieces into meaningful, one-of-a-kind artworks.
Guidance
Guided by a trained facilitator, the session begins with a reflection on imperfection, followed by the symbolic act of breaking and reassembling pottery. Along the way, participants explore themes of resilience, healing, and transformation—making this not just a visual art experience, but a mindful and emotional journey.
Metaphorical Art
Metaphorical Art is about creating with meaning rather than chasing perfection. In this workshop, the cracks and broken pieces become invitations to discover the gold hidden in life’s messiness. The process is not about precision or completing a flawless restoration—it’s about slowing down, embracing imperfection, and letting the act of mending speak to our own stories. Here, hope lies in authoring our destiny: choosing to highlight the beauty in what was once broken, and allowing renewal to shine through the seams.
Allow yourself to play
This workshop is not about producing a polished final piece, but about the discovery process—learning a new craft while exploring the philosophy of embracing brokenness, imperfection, and even failure. Completion of the entire artwork within the short session is not expected, as the focus rests on curiosity, openness, creativity and play. The experience is best suited for those who welcome spontaneity and creative exploration, rather than those seeking precision, predictability, or perfection.

Modern Kintsugi workshop is more than just a craft session.
It is restorative, cathartic and wholesome.
A time for self-care and self compassion.
* I’ve learned not to waste energy wishing it could go back to what it was. You don’t need it to be the same again. When repaired with patience and perspective, what’s rebuilt becomes different. Sometimes, even better. As I started to patiently restore it, I scrutinised each crack and began to see it as a space for something new. Each line of gold painted, a reminder of resilience, renewal, and grace. Love the analogy Audrey shared about the cracks allowing light to get through. Great class and holistic experience! – Elaine.
There is beauty in brokenness and in the unexpected. Healing takes time and it looks different for everyone. I’m grateful for the chance to slow down, be present and feel safe here. -Hou Xin An

Healing takes time — especially when there are many broken pieces. Today reminded me that it’s ok to heal slowly and let God’s love and grace be the golden glue that mends my broken heart in His perfect timing. Audrey’s sharing made the journey feel safe and hopeful. My takeaway: Be patient, self-compassionate, let go of control and trust God in the awakening and healing process as He endows me with wisdom and strength.-Awyong Puay Sun
In seasons of grief and sorrow, allowing ourselves to mourn awakens our awareness of the healing we need. Our tears become the sacred glue God uses to gently mend the shattered pieces of our hearts. – palliative doctor Patrick Kee

🌿 The calm, relaxing atmosphere allowed me to reflect deeply. My biggest takeaway? Each artwork is unique, just like each of us. Imperfections don’t need fixing—they’re what make us authentic.

“What Changes in Just 3 Hours?”
Before the workshop begins, participants quietly check in—with their stress, their stories, their sense of wholeness. Three hours later, something shifts. Across seven emotional dimensions—from anxiety to calm, isolation to connection, brokenness to beauty—participants consistently report uplift.
One said: “You don’t have to fix everything perfectly. Adapt, and be creative.” Another: “With enough patience, what seems like damage may emerge more beautiful than before.”
